Warrior

June 2010

Inspired mainly by Gillo Pontecorvo's movie "The Battle of Algiers" this collection is a tribute to the Algerian woman, her strength and her courage. A mixture of the traditional wear and the military uniform. The choice of the fabric used was crucial; traditional lace and silk used for modern shapes, instead of their traditional use, contrasting with cotton twirl and metallic zippers to highlight the guerilla side of these women while staying faithful to the traditional shapes and silhouettes. The cape, the Hayek which became a resistance symbol for women during the colonization,  was made more practical with sleeves and pockets.
